Certificates is a series of works that remove the personal secrecy required for building institutionalised divisions between self and others. Each certificate contains personal details, such as a bank account PIN number or the password of an email account, which are normally kept private to ensure the security of personal property. The work is a certificate of agreement between the artist and the person who eventually acquires the work. Yang offers these specific personal details to the person, who acquires it as an artwork, challenging the distinction between artistic and private property. Certificates offers to change these conventional modes of secrecy into ones based on trust and courage between two people, by sharing this information. There are 6 certificates in total presented as exhibition copies. Each of them reflects a different facet of the work and living conditions of the artist, including her finances, communication, travel and purchasing ability.
